How can one tell if a plot is principally suited for a PV system?

The following criteria improve the chances that a plot can be used for installing a PV system:

  • Plot is not in a nature / landscape protection area
  • Shade-free and not crossed by overhead power lines
  • As flat as possible, no large uneven spots
  • Slope max. 15° southwards, max. 5° East/West
  • No boulders
  • Can be driven to with a truck
  • Coherent 10 ha or larger
  • Proximity to settlements, freeways or landfills can be 100-500 m
  • A medium voltage line should be nearby
  • The plot is not leased
  • The plot should not be visible from far away
