General information on promotion in Spain

In Spain, the generation of energy from renewable energy sources is primarily promoted through a price regulation scheme.

There are two rate options:

  1. Sell the electricity to the system through the network by receiving a regulated tarif.
  2. Sell electricity into the market at a fair price that results out of the market or at a price that is freely negotiated (Art. 1, 24 RD 661/2007).

Furthermore, investments in systems and equipment required for the generation of electricity from renewable sources may be deducted from tax.

To avoid misuse, there has been a limit in place since January 2011 relating to the number of hours of sunshine when paying for energy from photovoltaic systems fed in (Realdekret 1565/2010). The payment is only made for fixed hours of sunshine according to the location of the solar power system in a specific region of Spain.
